People don’t walk around with Swords, spears, throwing stars, Sais or Nunchaku in today’s world. I have great respect for those traditional and historic weapons for their beauty, artistry and rooted-tradition but they have no place in modern society when speaking about modern day self-defense. we live in a world that people carry knives and guns. I also differ from many instructors in that I don’t believe in spending time training with firearms as blunt force objects. They are designed for a purpose and I train my students to use that weapon in a manner commensurate to its intended purpose. I focus on practicality and reality. You can train with sticks, because it’s reasonable to assume that you may be attacked with one. A broom handle, a 2X4, a piece of wood lying around on the ground. As a Martial Artist you should be able to defend against these attacks and use that tool as a weapon. People carry knives and it’s reasonable and realistic to expect that one could get attacked by someone wielding a knife. As a Martial Artist you should be able to defend against these attacks and use that tool as a weapon. People carry guns and it’s reasonable and realistic to expect that one could get attacked by someone wielding a gun and again as a Martial Artist you should be able to defend against these attacks and use that tool as a weapon. Those that train with me learn to use all of these weapons and how to defend against attacks from any of them.
